A Nail Affair
Instagram can be a very annoying place, but I have to give credit where credit is due! Nails by Jenn came up in my Explore page one day, and she really changed my life. I used to save manicures for special occasions - wearing nail polish is a big no-no when you work in kitchens, and regular polish never stays on very long anyway, so why bother, right?
After stalking her page for a month or two, I made an appointment to get some fancy acrylics for my 37th birthday in July 2021. After my 36th birthday came and went the year before with little fanfare (it rained the whole time, had to cancel my plans, got VERY DEPRESSED), I wanted to treat myself to something sassy because we were going to be staying in the city for the weekend. I went for some sheer, dark pink talons, inundated with tiny, silver glitter. So shiny! So fantastic! I was a little nervous because she had been operating from her home since the beginning of the pandemic (she’d previously worked in salons in Astoria and Manhattan), so I wasn’t sure what to expect. She posts so many reels and pics of her process, I should have realized that she would be fabulous. Ever since then, I’ve been hooked. I try to remember to document my nails from every visit.
So far, I’ve 16 visits with Jenn(both in my neighborhood of Jackson Heights and in Flushing, where she lives now) and it’s exhilarating (and intimidating) to see what designs and colors we can do next. I’ve only done acrylics with her that one time - my nails are so healthy and long now, I don’t even need them. Just the hard gel coating, with the gel polish on top is all I need for a full month of strong and sexy nails. In addition to being a phenomenal artist, she’s so whip smart, funny, and an all around great person, I always look forward to seeing her! I posted the set from my most recent visit, and here are some more below from past ones:
